Deschamps Backs Zidane To Become France Coach In Future

France coach Didier Deschamps has tipped Zinedine Zidane to replace him once his reign at the national team is over.

The 51-year-old was named manager of France in 2012, and has led them to the EURO 2016 final and the 2018 World Cup final, with Les Blues winning the latter.

Deschamps agreed a new contract with France recently that will see him guide the world champions to defend their crown in Qatar 2022.

Zidane is in his second spell in charge of Madrid, but the former Marseille and Juventus manager believes his former team-mate could become France’s next coach sooner or later.

"The next coach could be Zizou, at one point or another, it'll be him," Deschamps told Le Monde.

Deschamps insists his concentration is on the job at hand and result is what is expected from managers.

He added: "When you're a coach there's no age limit,"

"It's the results that make you last."

Deschamps was asked about the availability of Real Madrid forward Karim Benzema, who has not been part of his squad for some years now, but the former Nantes, Chelsea and Valencia midfielder was concise in his response.

"That's no longer an issue for me," he concluded

Deschamps and Zidane were part of the France team which won the 1998 World Cup.
